About Feed The Children
FTC works worldwide to develop sustainable communities and provide food and other necessities for those in great need. Wherever there is famine, conflict, disease or poverty, it's always the children who are most vulnerable.
Operating from offices near Bristol, Feed The Children UK concentrates on support to homeless and abandoned children, those affected with HIV/Aids and children who may have been orphaned in disasters such as a tsunami or earthquakes and those who have simply been abandoned.
Feed The Children operates through its own staff to make sure donated aid goes directly to the people who need it and distributes essential food to over 100,000 children in Uganda and Kenya. Unusually amongst charities, it also asks for life saving items as well as just monetary donations.
In the UK, breakfast clubs at inner city schools provide healthy breakfast for children who would not otherwise be fed at home. We don't always remember the many pockets of deprivation that mean children on our 'doorsteps' are living with poverty daily.
Over 20% of all children in the UK do not get the chance to eat breakfast - affecting their ability to concentrate in school and leading to disruptive behaviour.
28% of UK children do not regularly sit down for a single meal with their families. The breakfast clubs enable them to sit at tables and eat socially with their friends, listen to music, read books from the club library or do their homework.
